Gridling saves your current game, results, statistics, language, theme and accessibility preferences in your browser’s local storage. This information is not synced to an account. You can remove it by clearing Gridling’s site data in your browser; this also resets your saved progress.
Gridling’s game and site measurement do not set tracking cookies or use your saved progress to follow you across websites.
Gameplay and security
When you start a puzzle, your browser sends the selected language, word length and mode. Each guess is sent with a signed game token so the server can check the word and return its result. The next Unlimited puzzle may also send the previous token to avoid a repeat. Gridling does not keep a named gameplay history.
To prevent a game attempt being reused, Neon stores a one-way hash of the token, its expiry and whether it has been used. This record contains no guess, answer or IP address. Expired records are removed during later new-game requests.
Like other websites, Gridling receives technical request data, including an IP address and browser headers. Gridling uses IP addresses temporarily to limit abusive traffic; Vercel may also retain request and security logs under its service settings.
Site measurement
Gridling records daily totals for public page views and engagement. The database holds the page path without query parameters, a broad referrer category, and grouped visible time and scroll depth. It does not hold IP addresses, full referrer URLs, device identifiers or a visitor ID. The measurement script does not read browser storage.
Rows older than 400 days are removed when new measurements are recorded. Individual requests still pass through Vercel, which can process ordinary technical request data as described above.
Service providers and other sites
Vercel hosts Gridling and processes technical requests and logs. Neon stores the aggregate totals and game-token hashes. These services may process data outside the UK. Their data-processing agreements describe the transfer safeguards. Gridling does not sell visitor data or use it for personalised advertising.
A definition link opens Wiktionary only if you select it. Wiktionary then receives a normal web request and applies its own privacy terms.
Your choices and rights
Gridling relies on legitimate interests to operate and protect the game, understand aggregate usage and respond to enquiries. You can clear locally saved game data in your browser. For personal data held by the service, you can ask about access, correction, deletion or restriction where applicable. Aggregate counts usually cannot be linked back to one visitor.
Right to object: You may object to processing based on legitimate interests by emailing hello@gridling.fun. If you are in the UK, you may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
